CFPB v. BrightSpeed Solutions, Inc., and Kevin Howard

The CFPB sued BrightSpeed Solutions, Inc., and its founder for unfair practices in violation of the Consumer Financial Protection Act of 2010 and deceptive telemarketing practices in violation of the Telemarketing Sales Rule.

The CFPB filed a lawsuit against BrightSpeed Solutions, Inc., and Kevin Howard for processing payments for tech support fraudsters. The defendants violated the Telemarketing Sales Rule and committed unfair acts and practices by processing payments for fraudulent activities. Eligible victims include 122,507 consumers who purchased technical support services from BrightSpeed’s fraudster clients through RCCs. Here, consumers’ compensable harm is equal to the $ 53,885,244.
